🇪🇬 ELSAYED CLAIMS MAIDEN WORLD CUP TITLE AT VANCOUVER MEN'S EPEE

VANCOUVER, CANADA - 6 DECEMBER 2025

Egypt's Mohamed Elsayed, 22, secured the first individual World Cup title of his career at the Men's Epee season opener in Vancouver. The World Number 6, who is also the Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist and 2025 African Champion, delivered a dominant performance in the final, defeating 21-year-old surprise finalist Dov Ber Vilensky of Israel 15-5.

Vilensky (ISR) claimed the silver medal, marking the biggest surprise of the season so far. Ranked 147th in the world, the 2024 Junior World Champion successfully converted his youthful promise into his first senior international medal after battling through the preliminary rounds.

The bronze medals were secured by two highly-ranked fencers: Matteo Galassi of Italy and Gergely Siklosi of Hungary. World Number 8 Galassi (ITA), 20, secured his second career World Cup medal. World Number 1 Siklosi (HUN), the 2019 World Champion, claimed his third World Cup bronze before losing his semi-final bout to the eventual winner, Elsayed.

Path to the Podium

Elsayed's path to the gold saw him overcome strong opponents, including a tough 15-13 victory over bronze medallist Siklosi in the semi-finals. He then entered the final, where he showcased his experience and form to dominate Vilensky with a decisive 15-5 scoreline.

Vilensky's remarkable run to the final saw him cause major upsets. After progressing from the preliminary rounds, he defeated the World Number 5, Komata (JPN), and then overcame bronze medallist Galassi 15-13 in the semi-finals.

Galassi reached the podium after key victories against former European Champion Freilich (ISR) and 2023 World Champion Koch (HUN). Siklosi, meanwhile, secured his bronze after consistent performance throughout the direct elimination rounds.
