🇫🇷 FRENCH DOMINANCE SECURES MEN'S TEAM SABRE GOLD AT ALGIERS WORLD CUP

ALGIERS, ALGERIA - 9 November 2025

The World Number 2 French Men's Sabre team asserted their authority at the first World Cup of the season, clinching the gold medal in Algiers. The formidable squad, featuring Maxime Pianfetti, Jean-Philippe Patrice, individual bronze medallist Sebastien Patrice, and Remi Garrigue, defeated a surprising Romanian team 45-38 in the final.

World Number 7 Romania claimed the silver medal, exceeding expectations after navigating a tough route to the final. The team of George Dragomir, Vlad Covaliu, Razvan Ursachi, and Radu Nitu impressed throughout the tournament, upsetting World Number 6 Japan in the semi-finals before falling to France.

The bronze medal was secured by Japan, whose line-up included Kokubo Mao, Streets Kaito, Tsubo Hayato, and Tsumori Shido. They overcame the Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) classification team 45-32 in the bronze medal play-off.

Path to the Podium

France's route to the gold medal was dominant, highlighted by commanding victories over Kazakhstan (45-34), Germany (45-21), and the AIN team (45-27) in the semi-finals. Their strong form carried into the final against Romania, where they led from the start (15-11, 30-23) to claim the 45-38 victory and the first men's sabre team World Cup title of the season.

Romania delivered a standout performance, taking down Chile, Poland, and Uzbekistan before securing a major victory against the higher-ranked Japan 45-40 in their semi-final clash.

The bronze medal match between Japan and AIN was a test of nerves. AIN started strong, taking a 15-6 lead after the first third. However, Japan mounted a decisive comeback, outscoring AIN 24-11 in the middle bouts to take a 30-26 lead. They maintained their momentum to close out the match 45-32, securing the podium finish. AIN, ranked 23rd, delivered a brutal performance to finish fourth, having previously eliminated World Number 3 Italy and World Number 5 Korea on their way to the semi-finals.
