Canada’s world number 10 Eleanor Harvey produced a masterclass in tactical poise on the opening day of the 2026 Pan American Fencing Championships, breaking through a formidable American blockade to capture her second individual continental title. The Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist, who first won this zonal crown in 2022, added to her impressive seasonal haul, which includes a bronze at the season-opening Palma World Cup, by defeating USA's newly minted star Carolina Stutchbury 11–8 in a cagey, tactical final.

Harvey's golden run in Lima was nothing short of monumental, as she had to systematically defeat two reigning Olympic medallists and the sport’s most decorated active foilist to step onto the top tier of the podium.

Stutchbury claimed a superb silver medal in her first season under the US banner, while American Olympic icons Lee Kiefer and Lauren Scruggs shared the bronze steps.

Path to the Podium

Eleanor Harvey (World number 10) navigated the initial poules unblemished, entering the direct elimination bracket as the number 5 seed. Following a first-round bye, the Canadian phenom flipped into peak competitive form, completely neutralizing Brazil’s Gabriella Vianna 15–1 and Venezuela’s Isis Gimenez 15–4. Her quarter-final clash against teammate Jessica Hayes proved to be an absolute dogfight, with Harvey executing a clutch parry-riposte to escape with an 11–10 victory.

From there, Harvey looked completely unstoppable. In the semi-finals, she stunned two-time Olympic champion Lee Kiefer with a clinical 15–9 display of distance control, before utilizing defensive patience to out-point Stutchbury in the final.

Carolina Stutchbury (World number 13) celebrated her first international podium of the season with an exceptional run to silver. Seeded 7th after dropping just one bout in the poules, Stutchbury effortlessly brushed past Peru’s Camilla Soriano 15–5 and Venezuela’s Maria Manrique Griman 15–2.

After surviving a tense 15–13 quarter-final against teammate Jacqueline Conway, Stutchbury manufactured a masterful tactical performance in the semi-finals, soundly defeating Olympic silver medallist Lauren Scruggs 15–9 to book her final berth. The medal marks her third consecutive individual zonal podium, having previously claimed European silver and bronze while representing Great Britain.

Lee Kiefer (World number 3) secured a bronze medal in what was an emotional and celebratory appearance on the continental strip. The two-time individual Olympic Champion swept her poule matches to claim the top seed, subsequently giving up just a combined four hits in dominant wins over Colombia’s Mariana Prieto (15–1) and Mexico’s Sofia Torres (15–3).

Following a 14–7 quarter-final win over Mexico’s Melissa Rebolledo, Kiefer’s golden ambitions were checked by a brilliant Harvey. Having recently announced her pregnancy, Kiefer will notably bypass the upcoming World Championships in Hong Kong this July, making this zonal bronze a poignant final milestone for the current season.

Lauren Scruggs (World number 7) added another major medal to her blistering 2026 campaign, securing bronze to go alongside her Lima Grand Prix silver and Busan World Cup bronze earlier this season. Emerging as the number two seed after an unblemished poule round, the Paris 2024 Olympic individual silver medallist faced an immediate scare in the round of 32, narrowly squeezing past Guatemala’s Dania Vargas 15–14.

Scruggs stabilised to defeat Brazil’s Bia Bulcao 15–12 and cruise past Canada’s Rachel Zhang 15–5, before her high-octane offensive game was ultimately neutralized by Stutchbury in the semi-finals.
