🇮🇹 ITALY DOMINATES TO TAKE WOMEN'S TEAM FOIL GOLD AT PALMA WORLD CUP

PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN - 9 November 2025

The World Number 1 Italian Women's Foil team opened their season in spectacular fashion, claiming the gold medal at the Team World Cup in Palma de Mallorca. The all-star line-up, featuring Martina Batini, Anna Cristino, Arianna Errigo, and individual champion Martina Favaretto, defeated the World Number 2 team USA 45-32 in a commanding final performance.

The USA team—comprising Emily Jing, Olympic Champion Lee Kiefer, Jaelyn Liu, and Olympic silver medallist Lauren Scruggs—took the silver medal after a thrilling run to the final.

The bronze medal was dramatically secured by the World Number 3 team, France. The French squad of Anita Blaze, Eva Lacheray, Morgane Patru, and Pauline Ranvier staged an astonishing comeback against World Number 4 Japan to win the third-place play-off 35-34.

Path to the Podium

Italy’s route to the final was imperious. Following a first-round bye, they comfortably defeated Romania (45-28) and China (45-23). Their momentum continued in the semi-finals where they bested Japan 42-26. In the final against the USA, after a brief early challenge where the Americans led 15-14, Italy stormed back. Led by the stellar performance of veteran Arianna Errigo, they established a dominant lead and secured the gold medal 45-32.

The USA's semi-final against France was a nail-biting affair. France held a three-point lead (38-35) entering the anchor leg, but the USA's star player, Lauren Scruggs, delivered under immense pressure, securing the narrowest of victories, 44-43, to reach the final.

The bronze medal match provided arguably the biggest drama of the day. Japan took a significant early lead (27-17 after six bouts). Facing a ten-point deficit, the French fencers began a tenacious, slow-burn comeback. Going into the final leg, France was still trailing by three points, 31-28. Pauline Ranvier delivered a 7-3 run against individual silver medallist Ueno Yuka to overturn the deficit and clinch the bronze medal 35-34 in a thrilling finish.
