🇰🇷 KOREA CLAIMS WOMEN'S TEAM SABRE GOLD AT ALGIERS WORLD CUP

ALGIERS, ALGERIA - 9 November 2025

The Korean Women's Sabre team, ranked World Number 4, clinched the gold medal at the Algiers Team World Cup, securing the first team medal of the international season. The squad of Jeon Hayoung (individual gold medallist), Kim Jeongmi, Seo Jiyeon, and Yun Soyeon defeated World Number 2 team Hungary in the final with a score of 45-39.

Hungary, featuring individual silver medallist Sugar Battai, took the silver medal after a strong tournament run that included wins over Uzbekistan and Spain.

The bronze medal was won by the World Number 1 team, France, in a dramatic play-off against China. The French team, consisting of Manon Apithy, Sara Balzer, Cecilia Berder, and Malina Vongsavady, won the thrilling bronze medal match 45-43.

Path to the Podium

Korea's path to the gold was marked by resilience. After beating Venezuela and Germany, they faced the World Number 1 French team in the semi-finals. Korea held a seemingly insurmountable 45-26 lead entering the final bout, but a sensational 17-5 rally by France's Sara Balzer led to an unexpectedly tight finish. Korea ultimately progressed 45-43.

Hungary’s journey to the final included steady victories over Uzbekistan and Spain before facing China in the semi-finals. The Hungarians maintained their lead through the match, securing a 45-39 win.

The bronze medal match provided high drama. After losing their respective semi-finals, France and China battled in a seesaw contest. China held an early lead, but France rallied in the middle bouts. Though China momentarily retook the lead in the seventh leg, France's experience shone through, ultimately prevailing 45-43 in the final bout to secure the bronze. China, who had knocked out the World Number 3 team Japan earlier in the tournament, finished fourth.

Korea maintained their lead from start to finish in the final against Hungary, taking the World Cup title with a decisive 45-39 victory.
