Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Mohamed Elsayed (EGY) capped off a sensational regular season by capturing the gold medal at the Berne Men’s Épée World Cup. On the fifth and final ranking stop of the regular campaign, the three-time African Champion proved entirely unstoppable, sealing his second title of the 2025–26 circuit with a disciplined 15–12 victory over Hungary’s Tibor Andrásfi in the final.
The golden finish marks a phenomenal fourth individual podium of the season for Elsayed, adding to his title from the Vancouver World Cup and bronze medals from Heidenheim and Astana.
While Elsayed stood atop the podium, Andrásfi (HUN) secured his best performance of the campaign to take home the silver medal. The bronze medals were awarded to Brazil’s trailblazing Alexandre Camargo and the Czech Republic’s model of consistency, Jakub Jurka.
Path to the Podium
Mohamed Elsayed (World number 4) illustrated a masterclass in elite counter-offensive timing all day. His toughest direct elimination challenge came in the round of 16 against Italy’s senior debutant Luca Del Contrastro, where Elsayed reliance on veteran experience pulled him through a razor-thin 15–14 cliffhanger. From there, the Egyptian maestro hit his stride, subduing AIN’s Georgiy Bruev 15–9 in the quarter-finals and controlling the distance to beat Jurka 15–12 in the semi-finals before replicating that score to secure gold.
Tibor Andrásfi (World number 26) put together a fiercely impressive drive to secure his first international podium of the year. The 2024 European bronze medallist turned the bracket inside out in the round of 32 by completely neutralizing his teammate, 2023 World Champion Máté Koch, 15–5. Andrásfi then relied on exceptional defensive grit to out-last reigning European Champion Roman Svichkar (UKR) in a passive, low-scoring 8–7 quarter-final duel before cruising past Camargo 15–9.
Alexandre Camargo (World number 26) authored the fairytale run of the tournament to claim his first-ever career senior World Cup medal. The reigning Pan American bronze medallist embarked on a spectacular giant-killing spree, beginning with a tight 15–14 victory over Kazakhstan’s Vadim Sharlaimov before dumping out reigning World Championship bronze medallist Yamada Masaru (JPN) 15–11. Camargo guaranteed his historic bronze in the quarter-finals, showing remarkable emotional resilience to upset world number 2 Matteo Galassi (ITA) 15–14.
Jakub Jurka (World number 10) locked down his second career senior World Cup podium, matching his silver medal from the 2025 Marrakesh World Cup. The Czech star put together a clinic in technical precision, comfortably pacing himself through the upper section of the draw. His march to the podium was highlighted by a dominant 15–9 quarter-final victory over Spain's Yulen Pereira Gavalda before his golden ambitions were checked by Elsayed.
