🇨🇭 SWITZERLAND EDGES FRANCE IN THRILLER TO CLAIM MEN'S TEAM EPEE GOLD IN VANCOUVER

VANCOUVER, CANADA - 7 DECEMBER 2025

The World Number 5 Swiss Men's Epee team secured the gold medal at the Team World Cup in Vancouver, winning a sensational final bout against rivals France. The squad of Bayard, Hauri, Fuhrimann, and Malcotti defeated the World Number 3 French team by the narrowest of margins, 43-42, to claim the title.

France, lining up with Bardenet, Fortin, Gally, and Jean Joseph, claimed the silver medal after a strong tournament run that included a semi-final victory over Hungary. They delivered a fierce challenge in the final, momentarily taking the lead before ultimately losing in the final moments of the match.

The bronze medal was convincingly won by the World Number 2 team, Hungary. The Hungarian squad—featuring Andrafsi, Koch, Siklosi, and Nagy—dominated the third-place play-off, defeating the surprise package of the tournament, Chinese Taipei, with a score of 45-18.

Path to the Podium

Switzerland's route to the final included steady victories over Australia, Spain, and Hong Kong, followed by a commanding 45-32 semi-final win against the twenty-fourth seeds Chinese Taipei. The final against France was a back-and-forth thriller. Switzerland took an early lead (15-11), but France stormed back to go 27-25 up. After a strategic substitution by Switzerland, the score remained tight. Ultimately, Bayard handed over a slim 34-33 lead to anchor fencer Hauri, who closed out the final leg to secure the dramatic 43-42 victory.

France's path to the silver was equally impressive, including a narrow 45-43 win over Denmark and a commanding 45-29 victory over World Number 6 Italy, before they defeated World Number 2 Hungary 45-35 in the semi-finals.

The biggest story of the tournament was the run by the lowly-ranked Chinese Taipei, who, despite being ranked 24th, reached the semi-finals after knocking out World Number 9 Venezuela, World Number 8 Ukraine, and the World Number 1 team, Japan, 45-40. However, they were unable to secure a medal, falling to Hungary 45-18 in the bronze medal match.
