🇭🇰 WORLD CHAMPION CHOI CLAIMS FIRST CAREER WORLD CUP GOLD IN FUKUOKA

FUKUOKA, JAPAN - 6 DECEMBER 2025

Reigning World Champion Choi Chun Yin Ryan (HKG) clinched his first individual World Cup title at the Men's Foil event in Fukuoka, Japan. The World Number 2 defeated Kirill Borodachev (AIN) 15-9 in the final to take the gold medal.

Borodachev (AIN) secured the silver medal, marking a strong podium finish after navigating his way through the competition with decisive victories, including a 15-7 win in the semi-final.

The bronze medals were claimed by Giulio Lombardi of Italy and Alex Massialas of the USA. World Number 32 Lombardi earned his bronze after fighting through the preliminary rounds and securing an impressive 15-11 quarter-final victory over Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Nick Itkin (USA). Massialas (USA), the 2025 Pan American Champion, secured the other bronze before losing his semi-final bout to the eventual champion, Choi.

Path to the Podium

Choi's path to his maiden World Cup gold was dominant. The 28-year-old showcased excellent form throughout the day, defeating four AIN fencers in the direct elimination rounds. In the semi-finals, he put on a commanding display, defeating Alex Massialas 15-4.

Borodachev's strong tournament run included victories over three Japanese and French fencers before he defeated the Italian underdog Lombardi in the semi-finals.

Massialas, meanwhile, reached the semi-finals after a key 15-9 victory over Paris 2024 Olympic Silver medallist Filippo Macchi (ITA) in the quarter-finals. Lombardi's impressive performance included knocking out World Number 16 Maxime Pauty (FRA) on his way to the podium.

The final saw the World Champion, Choi, deliver a controlled and powerful performance against Borodachev, closing out the match 15-9 to claim his first World Cup trophy.
