🇮🇹 WORLD NUMBER 2 FAVARETTO STRIKES GOLD AT PALMA WOMEN'S FOIL WORLD CUP

PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN - 9 November 2025

World Number 2, Martina Favaretto of Italy, opened her individual World Cup season with a gold medal, dominating the Women's Foil event in Palma de Mallorca. The 23-year-old Olympic team silver medallist defeated Japan's Ueno Yuka 15-9 in the final bout to take the title.

Ueno, also 23 and the World Number 5, took home the silver medal, securing a strong podium finish for Japan.

The bronze medals were claimed by two fencers with recent Olympic success: Eleanor Harvey of Canada and Kikuchi Komaki of Japan. Harvey, the 30-year-old World Number 3, added a World Cup bronze to her individual Olympic bronze from Paris 2024. Kikuchi, World Number 10, shared the third step of the podium, having been part of the Japanese team that claimed Olympic team bronze alongside Ueno.

Favaretto’s path to the gold medal saw her display impressive consistency. She navigated a competitive field in the direct elimination rounds, culminating in a semi-final victory over Olympic medallist Harvey.

On the other side of the bracket, Ueno also demonstrated her medal credentials by defeating her teammate and fellow Olympic team medallist Kikuchi Komaki 15-12 in their all-Japanese semi-final clash. Ueno's run included a confident 15-4 win over Ariadna Castro (ESP) in the last 16.

The final saw the Italian star prove too strong, closing out the match 15-9 to claim the season's opening World Cup trophy and reaffirm her status as one of the top contenders in the discipline.
